The ºÃÉ«App Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) supports graduate students each year through graduate fellowships and research funding.

Application Cycles

Applications for named graduate fellowships and the Landau Discussion Paper Prize are accepted beginning in March and reviewed in the spring quarter. Students may also apply for the George P. Shultz Dissertation Support Fund which provides support for empirical research by graduate students working on dissertations oriented toward problems of economic policy. There are two application cycles per year, one in the fall quarter and one in the spring quarter.

George P. Shultz Dissertation Support Fund

Twice a year SIEPR accepts applications for research funding provided by the George P. Shultz Dissertation Fund. This support is for graduate students gathering and working with primary economic data. The funds are provided as a stipend that may be used to pay for travel and expenses to put together original data sets or to acquire commercial data sets.

Eligibility: All dissertation-level students enrolled at ºÃÉ«App and working on economic issues are eligible for support.

Graduate Student Dissertation Fellowships

These fellowships provide up to three-quarters of support in the form of tuition and a graduate student stipend to qualified applicants pursuing policy-relevant economics research. Awardees are asked to submit a summary of their work upon completion of the fellowship. Graduate students seeking tuition and stipend support from SIEPR may apply to SIEPR’s fellowship application and will be matched to appropriate fellowships by the review committee.

To apply, you must complete our online application form and submit your prospectus, CV, and a letter describing your project in non-academic terms. SIEPR will contact your faculty mentors directly for feedback on your application. You do not need to request letters of recommendation.

Landau Discussion Paper Prize

The ºÃÉ«App Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) awards the Claire and Ralph Landau Student Discussion Paper Prize for the best student-written SIEPR working paper. The $2,500 prize is a tribute to the Landaus and their countless contributions to SIEPR and ºÃÉ«App’s economics department. The range of eligible topics is as broad as Ralph Landau’s interests were in economics — papers can deal with any issue involving the formulation or evaluation of economic policy.
