SIEPR Faculty Fellow Petra Persson is one of 14 ºÃÉ«App faculty to receive a NSF CAREER Award in 2022.

Petra Persson, an assistant professor of economics in the School of Humanities and Sciences, has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.

Persson, a faculty fellow at the ºÃÉ«App Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) is one of 14 faculty members from ºÃÉ«App to receive the award in 2022. NSF CAREER Award grants provide five years of financial support to early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

Through , Persson is researching the consequences of assisted reproductive technologies and prenatal screening technologies on families. The research project will study how these technologies affect reproductive decisions, as well as whether these technologies affect inequalities across families. The educational component focuses on training students in accessing and using big administrative data for research.

The project work aligns with Persson’s research focus on the interplay between family and policies — how family structure and decisions are influenced by government actions, and vice versa.
